The Wedding Cake Net

One thing that I hate about setting up a wedding cake outdoors is the possibility that the bugs will find it. A cake that's covered with gnats isn't a pretty sight. So when I set up the cake that was based on the Trevi Fountain I was interested in the net that they'd supplied for the purpose of keeping the bugs off.

This net hung over the cake table and covered it completely with netting to keep any insects and blowing debris off of it. It's similar to some canopies that I've seen in other places, but this one served a purpose instead of just being part of the table decorations.

how smart! it makes the cake look really mysterious

yes that would be great for the flying bugs but it will not help with the ants. i once delivered a cake for an outdoor reception and had to keep knocking large red ants off the table while i was placing the top tier. they crawl up the tablecloth and unfortunately i don't think that net would inhibit them at all :[

Ewww, that's a good point. Insects will find a way... :(

Anne Roy from The Gardens At Sunday Park says that a good way to avoid crawling insects is to keep the tablecloth a little shorter than the table so that it doesn't hit the ground, then spray the table legs with insect repellant. Thanks for the tip! But spray the table legs BEFORE the cake is on the table! =:0
