Gumpaste Magnolia Cake and Misc.

I'm scheduling fewer cakes these days and my back is thanking me for it, so what do I do when I have a week off? Why, put together a five-tiered display cake for no particular occasion, of course.

This one was a royal icing piped lace pattern, and I had to try out a few combinations of flowers before I got to one I liked. These are gumpaste magnolias that I have in my shop, and I don't think this particular cake needed anything else. If it had been piped in white you'd be able to add more flowers to it, but the blue makes it difficult to put too much on it without looking too busy.

Of course, I'll continue to mess around with it and change the flowers out for others just for the photo opportunity.

In other news, today is the last day for Craftsy's cake decorating supply sale, and the petals dusts in my shop are still marked down because I'm lazy and haven't marked them back to regular price yet.

Today's also the last day to enter to win 5 free Craftsy classes, so click here for that: Win free classes!
