A Quickie Tip About Gumpaste Petals

Whenever I make a gumpaste peony that has a large round center (as opposed to a plain one with stamens), The issue of how the outer petals fit around the center comes up. Since the center is round, the row of petals that surrounds it needs to be a specific contour to look like they fit.

This little video tip shows how to get the first row of petals to fit the center. It's very simple but it works. The petals will fit the center instead of flaring out too much.

You can also insert extra unwired petals into the flower if that makes it look fuller when you put them on the cake. Make some extras in case you end up with big gaps in the petals when you're arranging the flowers.
