Yesterday I made some fondant that was marbled using a polymer clay method that's a little more interesting than just wrapping two pieces of fondant together and twisting them. I realized that I'm not really thinking of MARBLED fondant, I wanted something that was more elaborate than that, and that was a good way to get it.
So here's a video on how to cover a cake using this method. The tips I came away with were:
--Roll the fondant in the opposite direction of the pattern to widen the marks out instead of elongating them.
--Go easy on the color that you use to attach the layers together--too much can leak out.
--Use a sharp knife to get the cleanest cut you can when cutting the block open.
